Screaming Queenz Ep 34 - The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh

What's your strange vice? Ours is giallo! The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh is possibly my favourite giallo ever. From 1971, directed by Sergio Martino and starring the beautiful icon Edwige Fenech, the film's got sadism, sex and more funky interiors and camp one-liners than any queer film fan could ever need. Is it misogynistic? Does it take itself too seriously? And just what on earth are they doing riding a motorbike without their helmets on? All of these questions (and more you never asked) will be answered in our latest foray into Italian Euro sexploitation slasher hybrid cinema!

Screaming Queenz Ep 32 - Video Nasties: Possession

"This is a movie about a woman who fucks an octopus."

Oh yeah, spoiler alert.

Looking back at the Video Nasties hysteria that swept through the UK in the early 80s, we decided to try something different. And it doesn't come more different that Andrzej Zulawski's polarising arthouse horror 'Possession.' Everybody has a strong opinion about this movie, and the Screaming Queenz are no different. Some of us hate it, some of us love it, and we are not holding back! Spoilers and very bad language lie ahead as a movie about the breakdown of a marriage divides our gang. Who will come out unscathed? Well Martin's got hold of an electric carver, Jonathan's lying face down in the bath and Stephen holds the answer to everything - vegan chicken! Whereas I'm headed for the local subway tunnel with a Netto bag full of eggs and milk and a very dodgy feeling in my stomach... It's gonna get messy!

 

 

Screaming Queenz Ep 31 - The Killer Reserved Nine Eyeballs!

Giallo fans rejoice, we're talking Italian (like Robert De Niro and Bananarama).

First we discuss the baffling and flawed 1974 giallo 'The Killer Reserved Nine Seats' complete with predatory lesbians, a random ghost in a blue suede suit and more bitchy shade than an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race. Martin reveals just what he does for pocket money whilst I don't like the way Stephen is looking at my dad.

Then we're off to Barcelona on the coach trip from hell with the hilariously camp and crazy 'Eyeball' from 1975. Umberto Lenzi's take on Carry on Abroad comes with more lesbians, extra-marital affairs, a pervy priest, and in a pleasant surprise - a heroine who is both queer and a woman of colour! You could almost forgive his killing of animals in the making of Cannibal Ferox... right? No. Thought not.

The most notorious Hollywood feud peaked in the seminal camp horror classic Whatever Happened to Baby Jane! Joan Crawford and Bette Davis go head to head in a tour de force in Granny Guignol! Hollywood gothic at its best where two washed up actress sisters live out their final days in a rambling villa. Things get murderous when wheelchair bound Blanche hudson tries to escape the clutches of her demented sister Jane. Beloved by a queer audience to the point of worship, this horror movie has inspired drag queens and horror fiends alike for half a century. Hear why in our latest podcast.

Screaming Queenz Ep 26 - Black Christmas!

We're full of scary festive queer cheer for Christmas! Talking ghost stories, the time I saw a creepy Santa creeping up my stairs, checking our lists to see who's been naughty and nice... and we're off to our favourite festive sorority house for the 1974 classic 'Black Christmas'.

Considered the blueprint for the slasher genre, the quirky Canadian horror features Margot Kidder as a camp fabulous drunk, and Olivia Hussey answering the phone a LOT. Not to mention a foul mouthed psycho killer, a drunken sorority mother and my favourite daddy crush John Saxon.
